Two years ago Przemek, owner of Wena Moto in the polish town of Poznan, accompanied his friend Andrzej, called Andy, to buy a Honda CX 500. During the journey, Andy told Przemek about the rise of customized CX 500’s popping up around the globe and how he wished to have a CX based custom bike. Przemek, tired of the monotonous work of optimizing suspensions and engines, liked the idea. Thinking about participating in custom championships with a build was an additional motivation and so the two guys came home with the initial CX 500 Andy planned to buy…and 6 more!
Work on the first project immediately began by sandblasting the frame and the wheels before they received a new paint job. The overhauled engine was soda blasted while carbs and brakes were renovated as well. A new wiring was put in place while the rocker covers and yokes were polished.
After that, they got down to business: frame and swing-arm were modified in order to work with a monoshock. The handmade seat cowl and tail section were connected to the gas tank in order to form a monocoque while the unusual layout of the headers and the exhaust fitted under the tail section were completely made in-house. Tiny LED’s were integrated in the seat cowl and work as tail light and indicators. Rearsets were fabricated and a headlight with integrated indicator war fixed with home-made polished mounts. A stainless steel housing for the speedo was fabricated and mounted.
Clip-ons, levers, mirrors, gas cap and air filters are aftermarket parts.
The Twister named Honda CX 500 immediately made first place in the Cafe Racer category at the 2016 Polish Custom Bike Championships and received a Pick of Excellence award by Custom Chrome Europe.
Encouraged by this success, Andy and Przemek decided to establish Wena Customs. After all, they still have 6 CX’s waiting to be transformed into custom bikes.
